The community organization ACORN has begun to focus more efforts on loan servicing companies that are not playing by the rules that the government has laid out in terms of loan modifications.

The group has planned protests in major cities as part of a plan to force more loan servicing companies to modify home loans to make mortgages more affordable to troubled homeowners. The problem is that homeowners are re-defaulting on their mortgages because loan companies are failing to lower the monthly payments on the loans.

“To date, many incentives for participation have have been provided to servicers, but none have faced any serious consequences for refusing to participate in HAMP or for outright violating the terms of the program”
